Focus group meetings around the districts are to help the NZLS decide what its membership wants
The Law Society is presently going to its membership to find out what they need and want in the days of voluntary membership through a variety of focus group meetings throughout the country.
The 'Briefcase' column in the National Business Report has reported that the meetings are designed to see what the NZ Law Society membership wants in terms of its representative functions which, until the onset of the new Lawyers and Conveyancers Act was largely handled by the Auckland District Law Society.
'Briefcase' columnist John Bowie wrote: "Following the relatively harrowing establishment of the new law society structure under the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act, in particular the question of how orphaned the Auckland District Law Society might become in the New World (a very healthy orphan, actually), there is now a flexing of its representative muscle under the direction of Auckland Branch Manager and GM for Representative Services, Glenda Macdonald."
The column reports that the groups are being organised by the NZLS Auckland manager of representative services Glenda Macdonald.
"Glenda Macdonald, who previously handled marketing and media matters for Simpson Grierson, including their splashy advertising campaign, is undoubtedly well equipped to handle the task, although she’s tight-lipped about her new assignment. All of which tends to beg the question as to whether there’s some toe-standing going on between the two," Bowie wrote.
